Kashmir’s SAGG Eco Village has gained international recognition for its commitment to regenerative practices and eco-friendly tourism. The achievement highlights how the initiative successfully combines environmental care, community participation, and sustainable hospitality in the Himalayan foothills.
Gold Award at TOFT Tourism Awards 2025
SAGG Eco Village recently received the Gold award in the Sustainable Homestay category at the TOFT Wildlife and Nature Tourism Awards 2025, held in New Delhi. This recognition celebrates the village’s efforts in promoting regenerative agriculture and responsible tourism, even while operating in a region that faces unique challenges.
The project has also earned earlier recognition from the International Centre for Responsible Tourism Global Awards, further strengthening its position as a leader in sustainable travel.
A Unique Blend of Nature and Community
Located in the Harmukh foothills of the Kashmir Valley, SAGG Eco Village focuses on natural farming, cultural experiences, and wellness-based stays. The initiative is led by ecological entrepreneur Fayaz Ahmad Dar, who has built the project around sustainability and local engagement.
Visitors to the village can experience organic farming practices, traditional food systems, and eco-conscious living. Activities include farm-to-table dining, eco-therapy sessions, and hands-on participation in regenerative farming methods. The use of local materials and traditional construction techniques also supports environmentally responsible development.
Boosting Sustainable Tourism in Kashmir
The recognition of SAGG Eco Village highlights the growing potential of Kashmir as a destination for sustainable tourism. It demonstrates how eco-friendly initiatives can support local communities while preserving natural resources.
The project also serves as an example of ecological entrepreneurship by reviving traditional knowledge and creating livelihood opportunities. Its success is expected to inspire similar eco-village models not only in India but across the world.
